kin 494 - practicum in motivational interviewing

The KIN 494 course provides foundational training in motivational interviewing and enables students to serve as health coaches in applied behavior change research conducted in the lab such as CYdekicks and the Walk with Ease project.

Course Overview
Kin 494 is a practicum course designed to give students the foundational training in motivational interviewing and practical experience in applying the skills as a health coach in the CYdekicks program. The course has two components (A & B) and students should sign up for both since they are both required to complete health coaching.

Completion of the foundational training (A) is required to complete the practicum component (B). However, once a student completes B, they can enroll in subsequent semesters to serve as a peer health coach, to gain additional experience and to get involved in the coordination of the associated research projects in the lab.
